October 15, 2026 - Fly to Hammonton for Breakfast

My long-time flying buddy and brother-in-law Bruce was in town so we went flying this Thursday morning.  The weather forecast was iffy but flyable for this morning.  In fact, the weather was excellent all morning.  Iffy weather didn't show up until late afternoon, long after we were on the ground.

Our destination was the Apron Cafe at Hammonton, NJ.  Bruce has never been there so I thought he might like to go to one of our "go-to" places.

Brian and passenger Jeff in Brian's RV-8 went with us.

Here we are on the ground at Hammonton.

Group shot on the Hammonton ramp.  Jeff (at left) is building a RV-7A.

A very nice looking Great Lakes Sport Trainer landed while we were having breakfast.   This one was built in 1985.,

Leaving Hammonton, we headed for Massey Aerodrome so Bruce could show me his newest acquisition:  a Schweizer 1-26 glider.  He's going to restore and paint it, then trailer it down to Florida.  I think this will be the third 1-26 he has owned.  I have flown the 1-26 and liked it a lot.

We checked out Massey maintenance hangar to see what latest project they are working on.  It's a Pietenpol Air Camper with an original Ford Model A engine.

Head one view.  The thing that cracks me up about this airplane is the big rectagular radiator which is mounted directly in front of the pilot's head!

A good look at the Ford flathead engine.

Everything you wanted to know about the Model A Ford four-banger.

A couple of Schweizer 2-23 glider trainers sit out on the grass ramp.

We did some funfly around the eastern shore before landing back at Essex Skypark.  It was a great aviation day!
